I started creating things in the kitchen when I was a young girl. My family grew up with a very limited pantry & grocery budget, but that didn't mean we didn’t eat well or eat delicious food - it simply meant we had to learn how to use ingredients.
My Dad taught me how to cook and bake using what we had. That meant I had to actually develop tastebuds because clearly everything wouldn’t go together. But you know what... he taught me that many weird and whacky flavours can actually combine.
Dad taught me how to be creative and how it is okay to love cooking food and putting in effort in the kitchen.
This cookbook came to light in 2021, mid pandemic, pregnant with our first daughter Annabel. Circumstances meant I had a lot of free time from 27 weeks pregnant, between Masterchef & my own love for baking I hit the kitchen. In there I created most of these sweet recipes and then came the savoury once Ed joined the Army and I was making 3 meals a day from scratch and entertaining people a lot more frequently than I had thought I would. Oh the irony of how I once told my mother in law I would never be hosting dinner parties.
This book is for my babies; don’t ever let someone else dim your light. You know what you want in this world and you are allowed to chase it. You are my shining lights and guiding stars. You decide how brightly you shine, always.
